| "How happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways! You will surely eat what your hands have worked for. You will be happy, and it will go well for you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house, your sons (and daughters), like young olive trees around your table. In this very way the man who fears the Lord will be blessed." ~Psalm 128:1-4
You know, I read this verse this morning and it hit me in a whole new way to all of the other times I have read it. It seems like scripture is giving advice to something a man should do when in reality it is also a command. It's not just advice... it's beckoning... God calling to man telling him, "Look at what you can have if you come after me!" Funny, how every time I read it before it just seemed like something men of God COULD do. It's something we SHOULD do.
Also, I don't think any of us can imagine the blessing and prosperity associated with "fruitful vine" and "young olive trees". In the time that this scripture was written these two things were not only desired but also blessings if received. For a wife to be a fruitful vine she would reach out and cover all lengths of the household... BUT not JUST cover the household... she would produce fruit throughout that household as well... if fruitful vines touch a table... what happens? It becomes a table full of fruit! If it covers the house... the house becomes fruitful!!!! It's not a tree growing in one part of the house, it is the wife becoming fruitful in every part of the house and beyond!
As far as children being young olive trees, that means they are among the most valued things on earth. At the time scripture was written, olive oil was an EXTREMELY valued commodity. So what scripture is saying is that your children will be of an enormous value within your house. Not only that but they are young olive trees... not old ones... this means they will be valued for a lifetime. Children being like young olive trees means they will bless your household and bless you with the oil that comes from the heart of them.
All in all, God offers so much more in the scripture than you or I could imagine! Remember, you receive from scripture only what you put into searching it...

| I was walking back to my apartment this morning talking to God and some pretty awesome things hit me. I realize that I and so many other people out there condemn themselves over their weaknesses... We wish we could be more patient, be more joyful, be stronger, be smarter, have more common sense, be prettier, be more handsome, be more optimistic, be more secure, have better memory, etc. I know personally there are so many things that I wish I could be or have... Truth is, however, I cannot certain things about myself no matter how hard I try or how much I want to change them... I'm weak...
But as I kept mulling over the idea it hit me... It is in the weaknesses that we have that God can be glorified. It is in our weaknesses that God reaches down and does something supernatural through us... God will do something through us that we can't explain, but make it known that it was He that did that work through us!!! (2 Corinthians 12:10) So through that we should rejoice in our weaknesses!
Another thing that I realized is that as we were each individually and uniquely made, so sometimes the weaknesses that we bear can be the opposite of our significant other. Almost like a puzzle piece. Over the last couple of years I have not been challenged to CHANGE my weaknesses, but to improve on them. To strive to refine them and be strengthened from them. Becoming a man of God isn't something that can just be prayed for... it is a continuous process of refinement through Jesus and the learning of our past.
An example would be my relationship with Brittaney. I tend to forget things alot and yet she hardly forgets things at all. I am sure there are things that I am to her that she admires or really likes. I'm not saying her and I are "the ones" for one another. I really don't believe in that concept, but that's not my point. Brittaney is the only woman I will ever want to take my breath away. She is the only one that can make me feel the way I do without saying a word to me. She is remarkable beyond words and there is not another woman on earth that can shake a stick to her. She will be the best mother and I KNOW that Izzabella will call her mom "blessed"... because I know I am. Anyway, she is alot of things I am not and through each mistake I make, I make one step forward through her accountability to me. So through my weaknesses I am refined by Christ and alot drawn closer to the One that made me and the ones that He has given me. So I rejoice in my weaknesses because they make me realize how much I need Christ. Simply put.
